Extra Help education hub honored at 2021 Digital Health Awards

PAN’s Extra Help education hub, a free resource created to help patients and healthcare providers apply for the federal aid program, won bronze in the category of “web-based digital help, microsite” at the spring 2021 Digital Health Awards.

The Extra Help program—also known as the Low-Income Subsidy program—is administered by the Social Security Administration and was designed to assist people with their Medicare prescription drug plan costs. Thousands of Medicare beneficiaries—many of whom are PAN grant recipients—may qualify for state or federal assistance from the program but don’t know that they are eligible or struggle with the complex application.

Successful applicants can save 85 percent or more on their out-of-pocket medication costs through the program.

PAN launched the education hub earlier this year, including custom tools to help patients get organized before starting the application, like a five-question eligibility checker and an interactive application checklist.

The goal of the Digital Health Awards is to recognize high-quality digital health resources for consumers and health professionals. The awards are held twice each year, once in the spring and once in the fall.

“This educational tool makes it easier for patients to apply for federal aid that can lower their medication costs,” said Dan Klein, PAN’s President and CEO. “I’m proud of the work our team did to create this valuable resource and thrilled that the Digital Health Awards recognized its value.”
