About the Disease

Hemolytic uremic syndrome is a rare condition that occurs when damaged red blood cells form clots and cause a life-threatening kidney injury. Subtypes include: shiga toxin-producing Escherichia coli (STEC) hemolytic uremic syndrome (typical), atypical hemolytic uremic syndrome, and streptococcal pneumonia associated hemolytic uremic syndrome.
