PAN Carries Momentum into 2015

Washington, DC – February 04, 2015 – Last year was a record-breaking year for the Patient Access Network (PAN) Foundation, which achieved milestones for the number of people approved for grants -- over 180,000 -- and the amount of financial assistance provided -- more than $491 million – in 2014. These numbers have paved the way for PAN to provide even more assistance this year for individuals and families who need help with out-of pocket costs for critical medications.

In January 2015, PAN eclipsed its previous monthly records for the number of grants awarded -- nearly 40,500 -- and the amount of assistance provided -- over $117 million.

PAN, which provides cost-sharing assistance to patients for over 50 different cancers, chronic illnesses and rare diseases, is poised to continue its growth in 2015. Last year, the Foundation created several new disease funds, including ones for Philadelphia Chromosome Positive Acute Lymphoblastic Leukemia, Chronic Myeloid Leukemia and HIV/AIDS. PAN also recently announced the expansion of its HIV/AIDS fund to include assistance for post-exposure prophylaxis (PEP) and pre-exposure prophylaxis (PrEP), which are therapies that lower the rate of HIV infection among at-risk populations, sexual assault victims or people who are occupationally exposed to HIV/AIDS.

“The demand we have seen from patients only serves to reinforce our commitment to provide more grants to people who are struggling to afford life-extending and life-saving medications,” said PAN President and CEO Daniel Klein. “By streamlining our application process and increasing the number of disease funds and grants available, we are trying to ensure that more people can get the help they need to improve the quality and length of their lives.”

Since its inception in 2004, PAN has helped 376,635 underinsured individuals or patients afford the cost-sharing requirements associated with their treatments.
