PAN Challenge and

Cost-Sharing Roundtable

A collaboration between the Patient Access Network (PAN) Foundation and The American Journal of Managed Care® (AJMC®) the PAN Challenge (2015, 2016 and 2017) is a national competition seeking original research on the topic of patient assistance, focusing on patients’ out-of-pocket costs for prescription medications. Prominent research institutions, clinical centers, foundations, nonprofit and for-profit organizations have submitted papers and case studies. Past submissions addressed the impact that out-of-pocket costs have on initiation and adherence to treatment, and explored short- and long-term policy solutions to mitigate the cost-sharing burden for patients.

Each year, a panel of reviewers appointed by the PAN Foundation and AJMC® evaluates submissions and selects winners. Sponsoring organizations of winning papers receive monetary prizes and are given the opportunity to present at the annual Cost-Sharing Roundtable, hosted by the PAN Foundation and AJMC® in Washington, DC.

Winning papers of the PAN Challenge are published in an AJMC® supplement. Read past years’ supplements (below):

The Cost-Sharing Roundtable is an annual daylong event hosted by the PAN Foundation in collaboration with AJMC ®. Bringing together advocacy leaders and policymakers, the Roundtable provides a forum to offer perspectives on patient cost-sharing challenges and potential policy solutions. Past Roundtables featured presentations from patients, patient advocates, providers, policymakers, patient assistance programs, industry and insurers.
